Edinboro Area Historical Society Receives Capacity Building Grant

Charlotte Mashyna, executive director of ArtsErie, announced today that the Edinboro Area Historical Society was awarded a $3000 Capacity Building Grant. The money to support this and other Capacity Building grants was provided to Arts Erie by the prestigious Kresge Foundation of Troy, Michigan.

The Kresge Foundation is a national foundation that has historically supported fundraising campaigns to build capital projects. Erie is one community that was selected to receive the money from the foundation in response to the economic crises on arts and culture. Mashyna added, “the results of this arts capacity-building initiative are expected to include increased revenues, increased audiences and improved organizational functioning for participating organizations.”

Phyllis Woods, Edinboro Area Historical Society president, was pleased to accept the $3000 check from ArtsErie. The money will be used by the historical society to develop and implement an endowment campaign. “This campaign,” Woods stated, “will reenergize the capital campaign started by the society in 2006, and will help ensure sufficient funds to establish an endowment to support the society’s headquarters, the Doucette House.”

“The Edinboro Area Historical Society will work with local museum consultant, Melinda Meyer, to evaluate the results of the 2006 endowment campaign,” Woods continued. “The society and Ms. Meyer will then make plans to re-energize the fund-raising effort by developing a mission statement, establishing goals and a work plan, identifying prospects for funding, and developing a marketing plan.”

“Additional funding for this project will be provided by the Edinboro Area Historical Society. We are looking forward to a profitable and healthy working relationship between Ms. Meyer and the members of the Edinboro Area Historical Society,” Woods concluded.
